Our thanks to Andre Bollaert for his many contributions to our archives.
Did you know that the first Belgian jazz musician in the US was the Quad Cities’ own Omer Van Speybroeck? He recorded the album ‘Since My Best Gal Turned Me Down’, alongside Bix Beiderbecke on October 25, 1925. His story is featured in the June 2022 ‘Het Land Van Nevele’ publication. We are working toward sharing an English translation of this story in an upcoming newsletter. For now, enjoy this clip of Dan Russo and his Orioles with an Omer Van Speybroeck saxophone solo in 'Willow Weep For Me', Spring, 1933
